Curious as to everyones favourite gaming franchises and why, have any influenced you in any way?

Personally mine is Sonic the Hedgehog, the 3D games mostly, as Adventure 2 is my favourite game, awesome music/gameplay/graphics and replay.

Soldner, Metroid, F Zero, Comet Crash are all high up there

I play all sorts of games at any given time, but my heart is in the shmups.
Soldner-X, Touhou, Gradius and R-Type are all at the top, while other, completely different games like Wipeout have been my favorites for years.
Other than the shmups, I can't say I have any one favorite genre or franchise. One of my favorite series of games has to be .hack, I will say that!
I go from mainstream to obscure at a whim, so there's no real focus with me, haha.
Most of the reason I like these games is because of their atmosphere - the look, the sound, the transition of things...and I will go so far as to say I love the lore of the mentioned shmups too.

I generally like most types of games although online only and rts' usually anoy me. Wipeout HD is good... but slow as its not as speed based as the hover racer original series F Zero... but is more sensible and realistic I have played the odd game that I know I shouldn't have (Sonic 06) with notorious ratings but sometimes they appeal to me... bit odd... as long as its not CoD Finest hour I'll enjoy most games

Lets see how many I can ignore...

FPS: Still looking since UT turned awful after the new Unreal Engine all the games are using, Portal might count here? I play CoD only because I'm bored and MAG has so few maps... want to replace on PS3 immediately
RTS: Starcraft, do the MMBA count a la League of Legends?
Racing: Ridge Racer, Wipeout HD
Shootem'up: 1943 (THE ORIGINAL), Ikaruga
RPG: Phantasy Star II, Final Fantasy III (6)
Fighting: Blazblue looks good though I never played, most of them are annoying to play
Puzzle: Puyo Puyo, Devil Dice, Tetris (if I'm really bored,) Qruon... whats that English name, block something... um... let me gfaq it... NUMBLAST!
Music: Beatmania IIDX, DJMax
Strategy: Final Fantasy Tactics, Ogre Battle

Um, have I hit every genre yet? I know I hit all the games for the genres I named...

Phantasy star 2 is supperb, I prefer 4 slightly but hey... I'm glad none of the final fantasys on the ps2 (or 13) made it on youre list, even pokemon has more depth and strategy than those games

Pokemon, geez I'd prefer DQM over than franchise anyday and at least the monsters get free reign in MP so the player doesn't get to do specific actions (which is a + in my book) Sadly MP = hackers so I'd have to find local players which is probably zero since they all play Pokemon.

I tried 13... if you've added me you notice 1%... I can't believe I even made it that far I was like... am I playing an RPG... or a movie? 12 was ok... but I ended up just running around the world map ignoring the actual game, which is fun when the game is like "Fly to X" and you walk there without the ship.
