I will never get there. Playing the same stages over and over again is simply to boring.
Luckily I got a lot of less repetitive games to play.

Well in that case I must admit that it's probably the wrong genre for you. Replaying a shmup is part of its concept. You can basically finish any game in this genre within 15-60 minutes (subject to the condition that you are good enough).
Soldner-X 2 has a lot of additional content to unlock and explore, so there's a lasting appeal for most gamers that fancy these type of games.

I guess it sort of does depend on genre preference.
Otherwise, why would I still be playing both the PC and PS3 versions of Himmelssturmer, and then Final Prototype, multiple times on any given day?
And sometimes I'm just doing normal playthroughs, sometimes with no goals in mind. I guess I just like the universe that much, haha.

I know I'm late to this topic but I never played this genre much before (had Gradius III didn't like it) and yes its short-ish for 10 pounds but justified through outstanding quality and variation, unlike most PSN games each level is completely different and theres way more than 3 powerups and you don't die instanly, making it a lengthy experience rather than play 30 seconds and die.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder so not everyone will understand this game, but I hope they respect it.
I'm genuinely surprised its not double its price... I mean 1.5 gigs... 15 hours replay value... compared to section 8 which is double this has more gaming hours and quality.

I think the depth this game has is short, but the genre has high entry curves for newer titles that this doesn't have which makes it more appealing. The original had the high entry curve but with work it can be overcome, but this game misses.
I think of SX-1 like Bowling, SX-2 bowling with bumpers, and the leaderboards are designed for the "perfect game" which isn't my style, hence the short game. Challenges help, but I'd rather play arcade mode than take a challenge that I do easily during a regular game.

I see youre point, its unlikely this game will have real long term success... and at times becomes predictable due to challenges being what I've allready done but Eastasiasoft are producing games regularly enough for a small company to keep interest in the gaming publics eyes
