You do realize this is a reoccurring bug right? There are many reports of dying at the boss and being unable to respawn you have to alt+f4 your run.
Though on film = instant win!

Haha! I do like these situations indeed!
Unfortunately, there is no lore-related explanation for an occurrence such as this. If you had taken too long to kill the Golgator and the Hyperspace Portal had closed, there would be a cutscene depicting a bad end.
What happened here was simply an unfortunate glitch, so I'm afraid Hsanrb is right~.
