Will we now see any updates or information in regards to Rainbow Skies? I always enjoy looking at your screenshots, but would love to see some solid info in regards to the RS.

Will skills work the same way? Being able to raise them by use? Will you purchase them again to learn them? (Hopefully on both accounts).

What do “Upgrades” entail?

How is the overworld map improved? The quest system?

Will there be Rainbow Medals again (again, hopefully)?

How does the “Combo” system work?

Will there be a skill to raise for taming monsters? That would be neat, actually.

These are just a few off the top of my head. And, not looking answers for all of these right now, but please just give us some piece of morsel on information. :)

Hi Hobbun,

Many thanks for your post. We're currently really busy, so I only can introduce some of your question. You can also find updates on facebook and twitter, for example EAS has posted new screenies here from the automap today.

But back to your questions, I try to give you some insights regarding your questions to the skill system:

* Skills are now classified in "magic schools". There are currently ten different schools available, but each character class can only learn up to 3. It's similar to a job system.

* For each school, you can obtain magic books. They are similar to the scrolls in Rainbow Moon. You can obtain or buy the books, but you can only learn them, if a character has an affinity to the corresponding magic school.

* Each book contains 2-3 skills. So, when you use a book, the character will learn all the skills from this book from the beginning, but only the first skill can be used at that time. The follow up skills have additional requirements before you can use them. In other words, you have to 'unlock' the follow up skills, by using the lower skill. So, for example to be able to use skill 2, you have to bring skill 1 up to level 5.

* Books for each school are available in three ranks: Beginner, Expert and Master. You can only learn the skills if you have the corresponding rank, but each character can do examinations to increase his rank.

* Skill XP / lvl is still supported and improved too. While this was just a boost for damage in Rainbow Moon, (with a few exceptions like x-ray or light) the increased level now have individual effects, depending on the skill.

That's all for now. We'll carry on posting more details during this year, so stay tuned and thanks a lot for your steady interest in our project. (And we're really aware of the huge delay)
Best regards,
Marcus

Thanks so much on the detailed response on how skills work, Marcus!

I will say, that sounds very interesting, and quite a bit of change from Rainbow Moon. But doesn’t sound bad at all, I am actually intrigued. Although there is one thing I am not sure I like. I am a bit of a completionist, and with being 10 schools and only 3 characters, you won’t be able to learn all of them. Can the monsters you tame also learn schools?

And also a bit surprised Ashley, being magic-focused, doesn’t have some benefit over the other characters (Damion and Layne), like maybe learning an extra school. Although I guess the schools aren’t just magic, but every skill.

As for the books, are there multiple books for each level (Beginner, Expert, Master)? Meaning, let’s say the ‘Fire’ school, are there multiple books for the Beginner level? Or are we looking at 2-3 skills for Beginner, 2-3 for Expert and 2-3 for Master?

And really glad to hear that raising your skills will still net you more damage/time length, as well as other benefits, as well!

Also, what do you mean by this?

* Books for each school are available in three ranks: Beginner, Expert and Master. You can only learn the skills if you have the corresponding rank, but each character can do examinations to increase his rank.

Examinations as in tests that are given? Hopefully you can't just go ahead and take multiple examinations and quickly boost up your rank level.

As for following Facebook and Twitter, I actually check FB almost daily. That is why I asked in my prior post (on this thread) if my original post had anything to do with the update on FB. Although that was more said as just a joke. :)

Thanks for taking the time to answer some of my questions!

You got the point:) With up to 30 characters, you can obtain multiple members, that can cast skills from a specific school if you want. While the main characters will obtain two schools during the main story, tamed monster only have one by default, but they both can learn an additional school. In the beginning they are all specialists and you can never make a character that has access to all skills, but you can make a huge group with many specialists for all cases.

That being said, I want to mention that this is not required to complete the main story. But if you want to complete all the side quests and end game content, you need a really strong team and there are many ways to improve your team.

That depends, for some schools multiple books are available for certain ranks.

The examinations are special battles/trials. You're not able to complete them, until you reach a certain strength level. It's no walk in the park.

No worries:) I think ist has more to do with the confirmation of the release date from Sony.

Hope that helps,
Best regards,
Marcus

Thanks again for taking the time to answer my questions, and so quickly this time.

I actually like how the skills are being handled. It sounds like at it's core it is similar to Rainbow Moon (like the raising skill levels) but there is more complexity involved, as well. Big thumbs up from what I've read. I hope "needing a really strong team" means RS will be just as challenging as RM. That is one of the things I loved about the game, that you would get the crap beat out of you if you didn't prepare. And yes, that meant sometimes grinding was needed. Whether for levels, Rainbow Pearls, Rainbow coins (for gear) or all of the above. I hope RS is the same way.

I also hope Rainbow coins are as infrequent to get ahold of and gear is super expensive later in the game (like RM). When you can get money too quickly and items are too inexpensive, it becomes too easy. I've found too many RPGs, late in the game, where I have stacks of coins and nothing to spend it on. With RM, I found myself throughout the entire game short on coins and having to scrape and save, including until the end of the post-game. I LOVED that. There was an excellent balance of coins attained and price of gear, I hope to see that again in RS.

As for the monsters, I will say I've been a little hesitant on the inclusion of them. In my experiences with the 'capture and use monsters' from other games, it's been ok at best. Most times I find myself just sticking with the main cast as there was no benefit in switching to my captured and trained monsters. But it does sound like they are quite integral to the game, and that is a good thing.

That sounds great in regards to the examinations, I am glad they are not easy to attain or can be done quickly.

Ok, even though I have tons of others questions, I'll leave you be for now as I know you are busy. Thanks for taking the time already to answer my questions. :)
