This is regarding the star difficulty system.

I originally thought that the enemies had to be a certain level to count towards a challgning battle total, and to unlock the next diifficulty.
eg. Only enemies over 30 would let you unlock 4 star.

Now it looks like only fighting enemies above your level count towards the total.
I'm level 95 fighting level 70's, and they aren't counting towards my current goal of 5 star. But when I was level 60 they probably did.

So it can be quite crippling if you wait until you are a high level before trying to unlock the various stars.

Am I correct that only enemies above your level will count?

Thanks.

From what I've seen, you must fight against enemies no less than 5 ot 4 levels beside yours.

But as I"m just in my first game it's to be confirmed.

I noticed that when I was already level 90.

The game calculates the difference between the enemy levels and the highest level of your battle party characters. Monsters are condidered too. If the gap is too high, it won't count as 'challenging battle'. There is no static trehsold - it varies, depending on several circumstances. But there is a huge tolerance, so you should normally not having issues with that.

It usually happens when you use monster training or xp boost skills a lot, and have a monster in your party that is much higher than your main characters. In that case, just remove it from your battle party or put it to the monster house, when you fight against lower level monsters.

Hope that helps.
Best regards,
Marcus

I had a very similar question, so I thought I would post it here. But my issue is from the other side in that I don't want the challenging battle to trigger.

All of my main characters are 41 and both of my monsters are 48 and 44. As I indicated in another thread, I am running around the Loose Rock area and wanted to work on my characters a bit, so I wanted something that would still give good XP but I don't want to raise my BR in doing so. I figured fighting creatures back in the area of Mokimfusa would work as Ruby Dragons are 35 and the Fire Hedghogs are only 34. I figured I would be high enough level not to trigger challenging battles.

However, I first tried an combat with Ruby Dragons and Fire Hedgehogs and it registered as a challenging battle. I then tried one with only the Fire Hedgehogs and it still did so. Just how far of a gap do I need to not trigger a challenging battle?

Very far. I can't give you exact numbers, because this varies for each level. You have a lot of freedom here. It's more meant to avoid leveling up battle ranks by killing level 1 fur balls when you are level 40 or something like that. You can try by traveling back and killing weaker monsters until you reach the point, when it doesn't count.

Hope that helps.

So what would be difference I would need in my example, Marcus? For the levels I gave in my post?

Thanks for you reply, as always.
